The Seattle-based Swedish Medical Center announced it received an unrestricted $100,000 gift from nationally known shareholder advocate Evelyn Y. Davis and the Evelyn Y. Davis Foundation. Since establishing her Foundation in 1989, Davis – who is from Washington, D.C. – has now made significant donations across the country to leading medical centers, nationally prominent universities, and various arts organizations.
A shareholder in more than 80 corporations, Davis has been attending shareholder meetings since 1960. She began her investment career with securities inherited from her father and is the editor of Highlights and Lowlights, a corporate newsletter dealing with corporate governance and related financial issues. While Ms. Davis is to be congratulated for making such a generous donation, I hope she and others will also consider future donations to organizations that would help continue her life-long devotion to increasing the rights of shareowners. A few recommendations: Proxy Democracy, Shareowners.org, and US Proxy Exchange (USPX).
