Having difficulty understanding the 2008 US Financial Crisis? Here’s a
short animated video that explains – visually!
I enjoyed the 1952 movie as a window on simpler times. I was also struck by how sexist its portrayal of women was. Did people even notice back then, or was it just part of the culture?
My mother had to drop out of high school and go to work to help put her brother through medical school. My father wouldn’t let her drive or get a job. I knew a lot of upper-middle class women who got through it on alcohol and/or drugs. It is amazing how long it is taking. Even though women now, on average, attain higher levels of education than men in the US, they still are almost nonexistent in corporate boardrooms. Norway, France and Quebec, just to name a few, have moved to mandatory quotas. UK companies have been put on notice the quota option will be revisited if companies don’t do better than the current 12-13%. As in far too many areas, the USA is lagging.
