The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) officially launched its search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and manage the pension fund, health benefit programs and its 2,700 employees.

The CEO of CalPERS is the leader of a highly visible and complex government organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the organization achieves the strategic objectives established by the Board of Administration, while cultivating a high performing, risk intelligent, collaborative, and innovative culture. I would love to have a CEO very interested in corporate governance appointed to the job. Of course, that’s only a small part of the position but would be great. Maybe they should look inside to the very capable Anne Simpson or across the river to Anne Sheehan of CalSTRS for an overall administrator. See what I’ve written about CalPERS in the last few years.
