CalSTRS Corporate Governance Division Seeks Investment Officer II
The CalSTRS Investments Branch seeks a motivated individual to work as an Investment Officer II in the Corporate Governance Division. Qualified readers should apply to this opportunity of a lifetime.
Many decades ago, I helped persuade CalPERS to form a corporate governance unit. They chose one of their own, with a similar skill set, to head the effort. Since that time both CalPERS and CalSTRS have shaped the history of corporate governance, as I have tried to do using this site and my own much smaller portfolio. This job at CalSTRS will afford the right applicant a huge stage at one of the most progressive public pension funds in the world.
The Investments Branch manages the investment portfolio for the nation’s second largest public pension fund. This branch is responsible for managing all investment activities to ensure performance objectives are met. The branch consists of the following units: Corporate Governance, Fixed Income, Global Equity, Inflation Sensitive, Risk Mitigating Strategies, Innovative Strategies and Risk, Investment Operations, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Administration.
The CalSTRS Corporate Governance Division was established in 1978 to protect assets through good governance and operational accountability. Corporate Governance provides proxy voting, portfolio company engagements, securities litigation support and portfolio management.
In 2018, the CalSTRS Investments Branch was named in Pensions & Investments magazine’s “Best Places to Work in Money Management” list for the fourth time since 2013.
The Investment Officer II provides corporate governance and investment performance expertise. The Investment Officer II is responsible for various duties including:
- Perform analysis on portfolio companies ESG performance
- Oversight of proxy voting
- Provide investment expertise on securities litigation
An Investment Officer II who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.
